𖦹⊹₊⋆ .ᐟ
Ida-Marie Simonsen (*1999 Herning, Denmark , lives and works in Berlin) is a painter, sculptor and installation-artist whose work explores the human condition and need for connection, often diving into the fragility of the human flesh and its desires and dreams often seeking a trancendesce through speculative sci-fi.
“A teenager blogging in 2003, someone tweeting into the algorithm in 2022, and a civilisation sending metaphors into interstellar space are all performing the same act: revealing themselves in hopes of being witnessed.
I am interested in the patterns that connect us. The rituals we gather ourselves with. What do these rituals mean to us? to beings?
_ We seek meaning, hope or desire in them. We search for it, for someone; something. It drives humans, not only in terms of religion, but also in science, in things, in desires, in icons, in otherworldly phenomena, in UAPs.
Look to the stars and learn about them _ The expansions of the universe in comparison to our rather small world; The phenomenology of what lies beyond, and why. I connect this to stories; the stories I tell, the stories you tell, the stories we tell each other. Through them, i aim to foster imagination and disrupt categorisation.
At the same time, there seems to be a pull backwards, a search for answers in something forgotten, something written down or communicated for generations to come. We see this in historians and archaeologist; all are searching for something in the past, much as others search in the future. When we look at the present, we see an obsession with remembering, with leaving a mark so that the future will not forget the now, as we have forgotten _ or erased _ the past, often in the endless pursuit of power.
In the digital age, we broadcast to one other.
It is a search for something both internal and external; in relation to connection; to distance; to the void. An encounter.
Will someone, something reply back?”
